Incas & Jungle - Family Expedition

DAY 1 LIMA
Upon your arrival in Lima,we will provide assistance at the airport and transfer you to your selected hotel.

DAY 2 LIMA
Breakfast at the hotel. Get acquainted with Peru´s Capital City,  its 2000 years of history and  Colonial  heritage.  Experience  the artistic  traditions and contemporary  lives of  its  residents. Tour  Lima´s  Historical Center. After  a  pleasant lunch, drive to the quaint and  traditional district of Barranco to admire the Pedro de Osma Museum of Colonial Art and its Colonial paintings and sculpture.       
 
DAY 3 LIMA - CUSCO
Breakfast at the hotel. We will transfer you  from your hotel to  the airport,  and provide assistance on your departure flight.Upon arrival in Cusco, we will provide assistance and transport you to the hotel.
        
Explore the magical capital of the Incas on a tour that  includes a visit to the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and  the Santo  Domingo convent  monastery.  The Santo Domingo monastery  was built over the Koricancha temple, one of the most important  temples dedicated to the worship of the sun. According  to the  chronicles,  it was covered  in  gold  leaf  and  filled with golden representations of nature. Then we roam around the old town with its very narrow streets. After seeing  the most interesting sites of the city, you will be driven into  the nearby remarkable Inca  ruins in the area: Sacsayhuaman, the  temple and amphitheatre of  Kenko and the Red Fortress of Puca Pucara.

DAY 4 CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY
Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion  to  Urubamba, the Sacred  Valley of the Incas. First, an opportunity to bargain with  vendors at a local handicraft market in Pisac. Enjoy lunch at a pleasant hostelry in the  countryside before continuing to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. The site was built just as the Spaniards arrived and evidence of how it was constructed is still visible. After admiring the site´s magnificent past, stroll through  the quaint  streets  of today´s  town.  Then back to Cusco, after visiting the picturesque Andean village of  Chinchero and wandering around its colourful native market. DAY 5 SACRED VALLEY – MACHU PICCHU
Breakfast at the hotel. We will transfer you to the train for Machu Picchu. Upon arrival at Aguas  Calientes, you´ll take  a 25-minute motorcoach  ride to the ´´Lost City of  the  Incas´,  discovered  by American explorer Hiram Bingham  in 1911.  Take a guided  tours of  the marvellous citadel visiting the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Lunch at Sanctuary Lodge Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 6 MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Breakfast at the hotel. We strongly recommend that you wake up early to see the sunrise over  Machu  Picchu. This is a once-in-a-lifetime sight. For hiking enthusiasts, we suggest a walk up to the peak of Huayna Picchu. In the afternoon, you will return to Cusco and your hotel.

DAY 7 CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO (SANDOVAL LAKE)
Breakfast at the hotel.Transfer to the airport. Upon arrival in Puerto  Maldonado, assistance  at the airport and transfer  to  the pier. Enjoy a twenty-five-minute motor boat ride down the Madre de Dios river to the starting point of a half-an- hour trek. After arriving at a small channel, board  a dugout canoe for a short  trip to lake Sandoval. Continue the journey on a catamaran. After lunch, board the catamaran again to visit the west side of the lake. Early in the evening, observe the macaws arriving to the place to spend the night. After  dinner, canoe expedition in search of the impressive  black  caiman.


DAY 8 PUERTO MALDONADO (SANDOVAL LAKE)
Wake up at dawn to be at the lake at sunrise  for a hopeful encounter with the family of giant  otters frequently visiting the lake. Birding good chances to see and photograph  the very rare prehistoric looking hoatzin bird. After breakfast, walk through the upper  jungle near the lake to see some  towering wild Brazil nut trees. Demonstration of natives techniques to collect, open, pack and commercialize this product, very important  economical activity in the area. After lunch, visit to the east area of the lake to appreciate some of  the five species of monkeys inhabiting the place, especially the most remarkable brown capuchin. After dinner, night walk to observe the nocturnal wildlife.

DAY 9 PUERTO MALDONADO – CUSCO (SANDOVAL LAKE)
After breakfast, return trip to Puerto Maldonado and the airport. Assistance on departure flight. Upon arrival in Cusco, we will provide assistance and transport you to the hotel.

DAY 10 CUSCO - PUNO
Breakfast at the hotel.Transfer from the hotel to the bus station. Assistance on departure. Bus ride to Puno  along the dramatic  landscapes of the highland plateau, with occasional views of tiny Andean villages and  herds of llamas and vicunas. We will stop at Andahuaylillas, where there is a beautiful baroque church built at the beginning of the XVIIth century.It is very well known thanks to its beautiful mural paintings.We will make a second stop  at Raqchi,  where there is an Inca  temple  built  to worship Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. Finally,  we will stop at  the archaeological  site of  Pukara  (200BC-AD300). We will lunch at a restaurant en route. Upon arriving in Puno, we will provide you with assistance at the bus station and transportation to  hotel.

DAY 11 TAQUILE & UROS ISLAND
Breakfast at the hotel. Take a motor boat trip to some of the more unique islands of Lake Titicaca, starting  with Taquile  Island, which is inhabited by quechua speaking natives who have developed both an efficient and original  social  system and a fine handweaving technique over several  generations. Then  travel to the utterly fascinating Uros Islands. These islands are completely man made, and its inhabitants continue  to  maintain them as they have since pre-Columbian times, using Totora reeds from the lake. Lunch included.


DAY 12 PUNO - LIMA
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the hotel to Juliaca airport. Assistance on departure flight.
