The silver mine of Potosí, in the Peruvian highlands (now Bolivia), converted Potosi to the largest city of the New World in the 17th century. 50,000 Europeans and 45,000 Indians lived there.

First let me say we had a wonderful trip - Machu Picchu was far beyond its billing - an extraordinary place. I think if we had stayed a couple nights in each of the places it would have been a better pacing - as it was we were getting to some of the hotels late at night and then leaving first things in the morning and since each hotel was very special we would have liked to have stayed longer.
We had trouble with the altitude in Cusco - but found the city fascinating. Loved the Miraflores........
